A Few Essentials Every Man Should Have in His Closet

Building an eye-catching wardrobe can be both expensive and time consuming. Luckily, there are a couple key elements for your wardrobe that will help prepare you for any occasion. These are some of the essential items you should always have in your closet:

A Tailored Suit—You will always need to own a suit. There are too many occasions where you will need a suit; including interviews, weddings, funerals, any formal affairs. If you’re only able to own one suit, make it count by getting one that is tailored. A tailored suit will fit you perfectly and will improve any outfit. Including a tailored suit in your wardrobe will drastically improve your look over a regular suit that fits, or worse, a borrowed one that might not fit at all. Sticking with a black or navy suit is always best because you will always be appropriate.

One Very Nice Tie—You will always need a tie to wear with that suit.

Buying a quality tie is important because not only will it last longer, but it will not fray or pull the way a cheaper one might. Your tie is your chance to make your impression if your wardrobe may be lacking variety. Choosing a high quality tie is also essential to create a great looking tie knot.

A White button-down shirt—As plain as a white button-down shirt may sound, you will find yourself getting plenty of use out of it. You can wear it both with the suit for a business look or with a pair of jeans for an evening out.

Black shoes and a black belt—A great investment is a pair of dress shoes and a belt that complement each other very well.
Men’s fashion trends generally are against mixing browns and blacks, so make sure you stick with one color for the two accessories.

A Polo Shirt—A simple polo is another great addition to your wardrobe, and most colors are fair game for both work and a night out. If your budget is tight, try to pick a color that will work with many different shorts or pants combinations. A polo shirt is usually a must in most country clubs as well. You wouldn’t want to miss an opportunity to golf with your boss or a business partner because you don’t have the proper attire, would you?

Khakis—You will always want some kind of khaki pants or shorts in your wardrobe. Khakis are another chance for you to show off your style, as you can go for a pleated short, traditional or even cargo. Whether you choose pants or shorts, khakis are a great addition because they are a bit more casual than dress pants yet a bit more formal than plain jeans.

Scarf and gloves—Having a nice scarf and glove set will always come in handy. If you live in a cooler region, you should go with a more professional scarf and pair of gloves, that way you can wear them to an interview or business trip. In the warmer regions you can generally get away with an occasional winter day without them.
