After one month of introduction in ECCO Golf Shoes Head Quarter, I travelled to Portugal together with a trainee colleague. In Portugal I followed a training programme for 11 months, where I was learning about production / development, and the basic business areas in an ECCO subsidiary. Before returning to HQ I spent two weeks in Thailand learning about mass production and leather manufacturing.
The first year of the EITE programme gave me a lot of good experiences at work as well as in my leisure time. I had the opportunity of getting very close to the Portuguese culture, travel throughout the country and see local as well as champion’s league football.

After my first year of expatriation, I started working in the International Sales Department in HQ.
In this department I learned about distribution channels, sales set-ups, market situations, sales strategies etc. Like the first year of my education, I had a lot of ‘hands-on’ and independent assignments. Parallel with my daily work I started studying a Higher National Diploma from Brighton School of Business and Management – it is very beneficial for me to combine the practice from work with the theory from the studies, and the difficulty of the books/assignments come as a natural continuation on my previous studies.
After 8 months in the International Sales Department, I started working in Finance Business Controlling.
It might seem quite boring to work with numbers, accounts, balance sheets etc. But I am very satisfied with my decision of making an internship in the finance department in HQ. I learn a lot about how an international company with subsidiaries all over the world is being managed – which can be very useful for me in my future career. When I end my stay in the finance department by the end of October 2009, I will move
to Hong Kong to finish my EITE education. ECCO has a regional head quarter in Hong Kong, from where all sales activities in Asia are being managed and controlled. My primary focus in Hong Kong will be on development of rather new markets in South East Asia. With experience from my first and second year of the education, I will be able to assist on making Business Plans, Budgets and Strategies for new markets.
I am looking very much forward to my adventure in Asia, and I am sure that I will be challenged a lot – both personally and professionally. It can be difficult to prepare yourself for an expatriation of long duration, ECCO Outlet as you never can foresee all the challenges and obstacles you will meet on your way – but for me it feels very safe to take the plunge as I have a supporting organisation, an apartment and a job before beginning my adventure.
