Salisbury Steak, James H. Salisbury
In 1886, James H. Salisbury created his own steak and named it Salisbury Steak in efforts to find out remedy ofgout, bronchitis, and tuberculosis. He believes that it’s advisable for patients to eat beef 3 times a day with a glass of hot water after meal.
However, while his theory of the steak has been in doubt, Salisbury Steak becomes a favorite dish of numerous people in the world.
Cobb Salad, Robert Cobb
As a boss of a widely known restaurant, Brown Derby in Hollywood, Robert Cobb is confirmed as one of the owners of a turning point in the culinary world. After working hours of employees, he mixed the leftovers in fridge by himself to create a perfect salad including vegetables, cheese, eggs, and bacon pieces.
Satisfied with his achievement, he added the dish to the restaurant’s menu. It quickly becomes a favor of the guests.
Caesar Salad, Caesar Cardini
There was a mistake that Caesar Salad was named after a Roman Emperor. In fact, the truth can be explained thanks to a restaurateur, Caesar Cardini, in Mexico.
On July 4th, 1924, Caesar Cardini added some garlic in finger foods, then processed small pieces of vegetables, as a result, Caesar Salad was completed and welcomed.
Eggs Benedict, Lemuel Benedict
One day, when serving a drunk guest who called a piece of toast, boiled eggs, bacon and eggs, oil and butter sauce, Lemuel Benedict chef unintentionally gave him a muffin and ham instead of toast and bacon.
As a result, a beguiling dish came out.
“Granny Smith” apples, Maria Smith
Maria Smith worked for a small farm nearby Sydney, Austria and loved to grow apples. One day she discovered an apple tree at the farm’s conner and determined to plant it whose fruits were bright green and had a tart flavor. The beloved kind of apple was named after Maria Smith from then.
She died in 1870, but “Granny Smith” apples have been welcomed so far.
