Fabulous Makeup Tips for Teens

  1. Teenagers are maturing yet youthful, and the teen years are often when experimentation with make-up begins. Teen skin can be sensitive, so it is important not to overapply cosmetics. Stick to oil-free products and wear them lightly for everyday use. When enhancing their lips and eyes, teenagers can be more playful than the average adult. Stick to neutrals for daily wear, but you can wear bright or shimmery colors for parties and other events.

  2. Teen-aged skin can be sensitive because of changing hormones, so avoid heavy foundations and powders that clog pores and cause breakouts. Instead, use an oil-free tinted moisturizer that matches your natural skin tone; this will not only moisturize your skin but also even out your skin tone. Apply oil-free concealer over problem areas. Some concealers and make-up products have blemish-fighting ingredients, such as salicylic acid. To add color to your skin, blend oil-free cream or mousse blush into the apples of your cheeks. Put a dab of the cream or mousse blush onto a make-up sponge and smile in the mirror. Dab the blush onto the raised area, or apples, of your cheeks. Blend with the makeup sponge until you have an even flush that looks natural. If your skin is oily, dust it with loose oil-free powder.

    Eyes

  3. Teenagers have smooth, wrinkle-free skin, so you don’t need a lot of eye make-up. One of the good things about being a teenager is that glitter and bright colors can look appropriate and playful on your eyes, so play them up. For daily wear, use neutral browns, grays and light pastel eyeshadow. To playfully emphasize your eyes, use brighter colors and glittery eyeliner. Line the inner rims of your eyes with black or white eye pencil to make them stand out. Lightly define brows with a brow pencil or powder to add structure to the eye area. Never over-tweeze your brows, as they don’t always grow back. Apply two coats of black mascara or, for a playful look, use mascara with a hint of color, such as plum or blue. Colored mascaras are made to help your eye color stand out.

    Lips

  4. To define your lips, apply natural-flush color lipstick and top it with clear gloss. Lipstick in a natural pink-flush color will make your lips stand out and look naturally pretty. You can skip lipstick altogether and simply wear gloss that suits your personality. For everyday wear, try clear or tinted gloss. For a playful look, wear gloss with frost or glitter in it. Or, you can simply wear a lip moisturizer, some of which are flavored, tinted or contain a touch of glitter.
