Olga Alava of Ecuador is Miss Earth 2011 Winner (Pictures)


Miss Ecuador, 23-year-old Olga Alava, defeated contestants from 84 other countries to win Miss Earth 2011, which was held in the Philippine capital of Manila this year on Saturday 3rd December 2011. Meanwhile, Miss Brazil Drielly Bennettone was first runner-up and won the honorary title of Miss Earth-Air 2011, Miss Philippines Athena Mae Imperial was third to take home Miss Earth-Water 2011 title and Caroline Medina of Venezuela who was awarded as Miss Earth-Fire 2011 came in fourth. The winner of Miss Earth 2011, Olga Alava will receive a cash award of $20,000 along with other prizes, and will become the spokeswoman for the Miss Earth Foundation and the United Nations Environment Program.

Wearing a glittering white gown with silver rhinestone embellishment, Olga Alava, who advocates preserving the forests and planting more trees looked gorgeous in a traditional outfit designed by Ritu Kumar as Miss Earth 2010 Nicole Faria of India took her farewell walk and handed the white silver gown over to Miss Ecuador. The Ecuadorian model, Olga Alava is a native of Guayaquil and an enthusiast about Asian culture who studied in China for a year and speaks Mandarin. Furthermore, Olga Alava who stands 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) tall presented an ecological project for protecting Ecuador’s mangroves and has also become a spokeswoman for the protection of the Yasuni biosphere reserve in her country. During the event, newly crowned Miss Earth 2011 answered a question from the jury by saying that “education is the best solution for the environment because children are those who have to preserve the Earth for future generations.”

Miss Earth which is annual international beauty pageant serves as an ambassador to environmental protection campaigns worldwide as well as a spokeswoman for the United Nations Environment Program.
